As founding company number one of the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC), Carrier has been a leader in green building from the beginning. We serve as consultants on some of the world’s most advanced green building projects and offer green building training and education services to customers and employees across the globe through the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability. We also are USGBC’s largest LEED® education provider.
We were among the early leaders to launch factory energy reduction goals in 1988, and expanded to broader global environment, health and safety metrics in 1997. Today, our sustainability goals address not only our factory operations, but also extend to product designs and materials.

The AdvanTE3C Solutions Center is a natural evolution of Carrier’s approach to sustainability—and will support customers around the world in developing strategic, energy-efficient and custom-engineered building solutions. Willis Carrier invented modern air conditioning when he custom-engineered a unique solution to control temperature, humidity and indoor air quality for a Brooklyn printing plant. AdvanTE3C Solutions Center builds on that long legacy of customer-driven innovation and Carrier’s expertise in designing energy efficient and sustainable buildings for the future.
At Carrier, we design with the environment in mind and set environmental performance targets for our products. In nearly every category, we offer industry-leading, energy-efficient options for our customers. And we continue to invest in research and development, applying the newest technological innovations to create ever more sustainable solutions. Our comprehensive environment, health and safety program has been in effect for more than 20 years. That is why we have been able to achieve milestones like reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent and water usage by 27 percent on an absolute basis from 2006 to 2011. Never resting on our accomplishments, we have three factories certified by the U.S. Green Building Council® under the LEED® rating system.
